The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden recently reopened at the New Orleans Museum of Art but if you aren’t quite ready to venture out, don’t forget about the museums many online offerings and virtual exhibits, such as “You Are Here: A Brief History of Photography and Place,” available until Aug. 11.
Longue Vue House & Gardens also recently announced the reopening of the gardens. The outdoor “Yoga with a Vue” series is also restarting tomorrow, June 9, with classes throughout the week.
While it’s not in New Orleans, powerhouse design firm and furniture and storage solutions manufacturer Knoll is hosting its virtual “Design Days” June 9 and 10. The two-day online event centers on workplace design and while it’s geared toward a professional design audience, there are several intriguing talks appealing to the design novices among us. For example, “Women in Design: A Conversation with Sharon Johnston and Zoë Ryan” June 9, 3 – 3:45 Eastern features a talk on modern design with the Art Institute of Chicago’s John H. Bryan Chair and Curator of Architecture, Zoë Ryan, and architect Sharon Johnston of Johnston Marklee & Associates.
Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans continues to offer robust online talks, workshops and other events. On Wednesday, June 12, check out “Beyond the Walls: Selecting paint colors for the interior and exterior of your home,” from noon to 1 p.m. (Registration required in advance). Check out PRC’s full calendar for additional events.
The New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute is also keeping a hardy schedule of virtual cooking classes and events on its roster. This week, “NOCCHI Together Virtual Cooking Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday, June 13, catch “Drag Brunch in Place with Poppy Tooker,” starting at 11 a.m. Many know Tooker from her 2019 release “Drag Queen Brunch” and from her NPR show, “Louisiana Eats!” She is joined by Chef Jarred Zeringue of Eat NOLA and Wayne Jacob’s Smokehouse and of course, drag queens who will perform during the Zoom class.
